Job description

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.

In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.

At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

Due to our ongoing growth, we are recruiting for a Transverse Technical Lead to support the construction activities of piping and supports on BNI and BOP scope supporting the Contract Engineering Lead.

The main activities consist in technically supporting the Contract Engineering Lead (construction activities) by leading some transverse technical topics. This will involve organisation of technical meetings, coordination with all key stakeholders, writing of technical engineering documents.

Principal responsibilities will include:

Support the Contract Engineering Lead activities for Piping Construction activities on BNI and BOP, in particular:

  • Leading technical topics towards a best for project solution
  • Coordinate discussions with all key stakeholders
  • Answering to Technical Queries
  • Resolving the construction Open Points
  • Supporting to HK8010 Contract Engineering Lead (CEL) to manage Early Warnings.
  • To handle specific technical topics and support to project managers to prepare BFPI/CMB/PCR paper, etc.

Proactive reactivity and technical experience to enable site construction activities to be executed without blocker to delivery, by providing technical support/expertise to close all open points / technical queries raised by the construction contractor.

 

Profile

To be considered the following qualifications, skills and experience is essential:

  • Degree in related engineering field.
  • Proven experience working in an equivalent / related role in the construction industry.
  • Meticulous and rigorous approach to engineering to achieve high professional standards
  • Good communication skills allowing positive streams with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver engineering safely to the correct quality, time and cost in a fast paced, schedule driven environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously but with awareness of own limitations.
  • Knowledge of contractual and commercial mechanisms.
  • Chartered Engineer with relevant engineering institute (desirable)
  • Detailed understanding of PWR design and experience in PWR operations (advantageous)
  • Working knowledge of French language an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations (advantageous)
  • Problem solving and finding solutions.
  • Writing skills to allow the issuance of technical documentation.
  • Technical competences to coordinate and perform some surveillance on the Contractor deliverable.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in a simple and understandable way to a range of stakeholders.
  • Persistence and resilience.

 

CMT (Construction Management Team)

As part of the HPC industrial strategy, Nuclear New Build (NNB: Owner and Licensee of HPC) organized with its Mechanical & Electrical erection contractors an MEH Alliance, the engineer is embedded within New Nuclear Build (HPC project) for MEH Programme (Mechanical / Electrical / HVAC activities), working on a daily basis in the client Quality Management System, along with engineers belonging to NNB.

Within EPR-E, the CMT is part of the Site Support Integrated Team of EPR-E HPC directorate. The position is seconded within EPR-E. EPR-E (EDF EPR Engineering UK) is responsible for delivering the design for a number of buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, to support to HPC construction activities and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. and set up a team called the CMT (Construction Management Team) to support, drive and steer the works of the MEH Alliance.

  • MEH End to End Engineering team is currently circa 120 engineers
  • Piping Engineering team consists of circa 40 engineers

 

 

The post is restricted due to the nature of the role and the export control regulations which apply.
