EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Electrical System Engineer.
The Electrical System Engineer will be responsible for the integration of the Emergency and Ultimate Diesel Generator (EDG/UDG) electrical systems and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) systems into the overall HPC design.
As the Electrical System Engineer (Diesels), you will undertake the following activities:
- Produce, review and update the system documentation for the control logic design, mechanical and thermo-hydraulic design, operator instructions, human machine interface, safety and environmental, as well as periodic testing in compliance with the engineering rules, methodologies, quality processes and tools.
- Ensure consistency with Diesel Supplier design on all functional interfaces of the power plant design: mechanical, Instrumentation and Control (I&C), electrical and layout.
- Particularly for I&C, performing the analysis for defining the I&C functional requirements of the system and production of the I&C logic:
o Writing of the Instrumentation & Control Functional Requirements
o Writing of Detailed Functional Diagram (DFD)
o Writing of FTP (Functional Test Platform procedure) specifications
o Analysis of the FTP results
o Writing of P5 text (I&C logic description)
o Writing of P6.x (alarm sheets, operating images and operating modes)
o Interface consistency check with diesel supplier design - Particularly for mechanical and electrical design:
o Ensuring supplier electrical and mechanical design is consistent with requirements.
o Ensuring update of internal component data bases consistently with supplier design.
o Analysis and verification of input data, requirements and lesson learnt from other stations. - Engage proactively with all stakeholders around the system in EDVANCE to ensure the delivery of a product meeting the requirements set by all disciplines (layout, civil, hazard, nuclear safety, environment, configuration management, procurement…).
- Contribute to topics around good practices, innovation, improvement of processes, and quality.
- Participate in experience sharing activities within the discipline.
- Contribution to the review process of supplier deliverables, for the deliverables related to system engineering: e.g. list of the classified components, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), wiring diagrams and consumers lists.
To be considered, the following qualifications, skills and experience are essential:
- Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- 3-5 years’ experience of process and/or I&C engineering.
- Relevant experience in the nuclear industry, or other highly regulated industry (e.g. oil and gas, aviation…)
- Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally, in English.
- Proactive and confident in communicating with others, particularly those based in remote offices including France, and Germany.
- Proactive in developing positive working relations with others within the project.
- Continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality of engineering studies and the subsequent documentation produced.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills.
- Knowledge of EPR system design principles, I&C architecture and Safety Classification
- Knowledge of diesel generator electrical systems
- Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
- Ability to read and/or write technical documents in French

EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
