Established in 10 countries, the Instrumentation and Control-Command (I&C) Business Unit (BU) is growing and already has nearly 2,000 employees.
 
This entity provides nuclear operators with the control and management resources they need for their reactors in operation or under construction.
 
The I&C BU has extensive and long experience since it has installed more than 300 instrumentation and control systems on reactors of all types around the world.
 
The solutions offered to its customers range from safety control systems to operational control systems, from nuclear instrumentation to simulators, from Human Machine interface design to Human Factors engineering, expertise international in instrumentation and control engineering to maintenance services in operational condition

Description de la mission

As part of the Responsible Designer for the Hinkley Point C EPR project, EDVANCE provides Engineering Design support for the Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI). CNEPE delivers similar works for the Conventional Island & Balance of Plant.

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-e), a subsidiary of EDVANCE is part of the Engineering Directorate. Within its scope of delegated authority, the EPR-e office provides technical support to the design of HPC site and prepare the design replication and engineering activities for SZC Project. It also acts as a back office supporting HPC site in resolution of issues arising during erection, commissioning & testing of systems under its scope of responsibility.

General Assignment

The Instrumentation Contract Engineering Lead will be responsible for supporting the coordination of all activities around I&C specification of the system design teams ultimately ensuring the review on time of the technical documents produced by the supplier, management of contract configuration topic (change of scope of supply, technical queries, technical open point) in strong relationship with the design departments specifying the sensors. They are also supporting the Client organisation with technical advices regarding the contract management with regards to strategic orientation to be given on the design but also on the acceptance of the equipment procured to be delivered to site.

Main Activities

The Instrumentation Contract Engineering Lead will be responsible for providing contractual & technical oversight of the instrumentation contract, including the operational management and coordination of Technical Engineering Leads for the contract & managing the resolution of open-points related to Design, Manufacturing & Qualification. They will be also responsible for keeping the contract configuration elements compliant with the project progress.

In order to do this, they will work closely with the relevant disciplines in EPR-E, Edvance France & other EDF SA entities but also with the client and the suppliers to ensure the technical requirements are met.

Typical CEL activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading contract technical & project meetings
  • Completing technical surveillance & resolution of issues/queries respecting contractual deadlines
  • Review and approval of contractor deliverables & design
  • Control & Management of the evolution of the contract & design changes
  • Review & approval of contract amendments & exemptions (Contract Transfer Sheets, Exemption Requests)
  • Manage the contract TELs and associated delivery scope
  • Resource & budget planning to ensure the requirements of the contract are met to time, cost, schedule and quality
  • Liaise with RD & client teams to ensure integration of equipment with interfacing functions/systems
  • Liaise with RD & client management teams to communicate progress, risks, issues and planning to support contract delivery
  • Reporting of KPIs
  • Ensure qualification activities

Profil

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • I&C, Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Instrumentation and Control design
    Knowledge of the EPR I&C design principles
  • Experience of producing design documentation and contract specification
    Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally, in English
  • Proactive and confident in communicating with others, particularly those based in remote offices including France and Germany.
  • Proactive in developing positive working relations with others within the project
  • Continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality of engineering studies and the subsequent documentation produced
  • Ability to productively coach and support others
  • Ability to prioritise, manage numerous with other stakeholders

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Knowledge of the RCC-E electrical technical regulations and the technical reference system (NFC15-100 / NF C 13-200 / BS7671 / IEC 60909)
  • Knowledge of EPR system design principles and nuclear safety classification
  • Experience of working on an operating plant or on an industrial site
  • Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its application within the HPC project
  • Ability to speak and write technical documents in French is a plus
