EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.
We are looking to recruit for the role of SZC Deputy Project Director (Nuclear Island)

Job description

The role of SZC Deputy Project Director (NI) is a key leadership role in the SZC Project Organization within Edvance and EPR-E. As deputy to the SZC Project Director (NI), the SZC Deputy Project Director (NI) will be responsible for:

1.      The delivery and operational performance for the SZC Project within EPR-E;

2.      Ensuring all SZC Project activities in EPR-E are delivered in accordance with the SZC contract;

3.      Oversight of the overall project delivery performance

4.      Carrying out other project leadership activities as delegate of and in agreement with the SZC NI Project Director where the Deputy Project Director either provides support to or takes direct responsibility for these activities. This can include acting on behalf of the Project Director in the relationship and interactions with the SZC Client teams.

The Deputy Project Director represents the Project Director in a number of project committees and governance meetings as required and has line management responsibility for the UK-based SZC teams.

As deputy to the SZC Project Director (NI), the SZC Deputy Project Director (NI) will be responsible for:

1.       The delivery and operational performance (to safety, quality, time & cost objectives) of all UK-based activities for the SZC Project within EPR-E;

2.       The oversight of overall delivery and operational performance (to safety, quality, time & cost objectives) of the project.

3.       Ensuring all SZC Project activities in EPR-E are delivered in accordance with the SZC contract: Delivery of technical work packages for the SZC design replication and engineering;

·       Overall NI Project Management and Engineering Management (including Technical Integration, Configuration Management, Data, Tools…) on behalf of the SZC NI Project Director;

·       Appointment of all senior management key UK-based positions in the Project Organisation.

4.       Carrying out other project leadership activities as delegate of and in agreement with the SZC NI Project Director where the Deputy Project Director either provides support to or takes direct responsibility for these activities. This can include acting on behalf of the Project Director in the relationship and interactions with the SZC Client teams.

Dimensions

Financial - Managing a Project Delivery budget ~£10m per annum

 

Other – Responsible for:

·       Managing a large team of project leaders and experienced engineers;

·       Developing skills & competences of the team;

·       Other Leadership responsibilities as part of the SZC & EDF EPR Engineering leadership teams;

·       Resolution of project and engineering topics in support of the SZC client organization.

Profile

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Degree Level or equivalent in a relevant subject;
At least 5 years’ experience in senior engineering / leadership / project management;
Senior leadership experience in project management and engineering delivery;
Nuclear New Build, EPR or PWR experience;
Robust knowledge and extensive experience of the EPR design and engineering processes;
Project and delivery management experience;
Good understanding of requirements and expectations of UK laws, regulations, nuclear industry operating experience and best practices;
Leadership experience in a highly regulated, technical environment;
Excellent communication, organisational and people engagement skills;
Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external
·       stakeholders;

Exemplary team management skills;
Ability to set, achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality;
Fluent English.
 

Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

·       Working knowledge of the French language;

·       Experience interfacing with regulators.
