Job description
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a venture between EDF and Framatome (Subsidiaries of Edvance), an EPCC established in 2018 in charge of the design (basic design) and the realization (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. Spearhead of the French nuclear industry, it aims through its objectives and challenges of economic competitiveness and performance, to position itself sustainably in nuclear markets internationally and those of the renewal of the French fleet.
In particular, EPR-E is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for the Hinkley Point C project and for the design of the EPR2, an optimized EPR model incorporating the feedback from the ongoing EPR projects. It will also carry out new nuclear offers and projects in France and abroad.
Due to the ongoing growth of our project, we are looing to recruit a Piping Calculations Engineering Specialist to join our HPC team
The Piping Calculation Engineer Specialist, with a preference for candidates holding a Ph.D., is tasked with ensuring the proper design of the pipe network and associated supports through the execution of piping calculations. Additionally, they play a supportive role for other team engineers.
Through EPR-E, your initial role will be to contribute to the completion of the Hinkley Point C design phase. The piping section, of which you will be a part of, is in charge of the detailed design of more than 70 km of piping network of the Nuclear Island for HPC EPR project.
Piping Calculation Activities will include:
- Gathering input data, analysing/updating hypothesis notes and loading description reports
- Performing the piping flexibility calculations and calculation of piping support.
- Analysing the mechanical behaviour of the piping network with respect to the codified criteria,
- Proposing appropriate and proportionate modifications in case the sizing criteria are not met
- Producing technical assessment note
- Producing the calculation notes
It will also include participation to set up of tools and methods, improvement of methodologies.
Piping calculation activities are in strong interfaces with the other discipline of Edvance in Bristol, France and Germany.
Management of interfaces with other discipline includes
- Preparation of Loading description report in relation with system activities
- Validation of civil work interfaces
- Validation of layout changes
- Verification of equipment nozzle interfaces.
Profile
To be considered the following qualifications, skills and experience are required:
- PhD in mechanics (Preferred) or a minimum of 3 years experience at high level.
- Mechanical simulation as finite element
- Prior experience with a finite element tool is essential for this position.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge (modal analysis, static analysis,…)
- Experience of working in a nuclear environment
The following experience is desirable:
- Experience in previous EPR or other nuclear projects is desirable
- Experience of UK design context and regulatory processees.
- High level of technical coordination.
- Experience in ANSYS and in calculation of special piping component (fixed point, endplates)
- Experience in RSTAB or BEAM STRESS and support calculation
- Knowledge of RCC-M code (section C3650 at least) and understanding of damage mode
- Knowledge of CALTUY/Pipestress
- First experience in piping calculation 5 years minimum.
