Job description
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Steelworks Engineer to support our Joint Design Office, Nuclear Island Team.
The JDO Steelwork Engineer is responsible for answering requests relative to his/her building/ affected steelworks, and, shall it be necessary, to perform required calculations and update of the relevant notes.
As previously said, He/ She will have the support of other team members, technical experts within the team, by the back office in Bristol, or even by the Edvance Expert Network shall It be needed, in order to update/modify the relevant deliverables, with the suitable quality process.
The JDO Steelwork engineer will:
Answer the requests on his/her scope ;
- Lead and monitor the production of the impacted deliverables on his/her scope;
- Interact with his/her back-office regarding design interfaces;
- Interact within the JDO with the client (project and intelligent customer) in order to support the overall project;
- Interact within the JDO with the other discipline in order to support the overall project;
- Support the JDO Steelwork team lead regarding the overall needs of the team (production, technical, quality);
Acting under delegation of the JDO Steelwork Discipline Lead, the JDO Steelwork engineer is responsible for:
- Checking update of deliverables previously issued by the back-office teams and updated by the JDO teams;
Looking over the continuity and the consistency of the design modified by the JDO teams; - Making sure that methods, referential, tools, process and delegated authority from the back-office teams are complied with,
- Looking over the interests of the Responsible Designer in the JDO on a daily basis, in particular with respect to topics such as intellectual property and responsibility of the Responsible Designer further to modification of their design by the JDO teams
- Produce in quality and quantity the necessary deliverables to support the project.
Profile
To be considered, we require the following skills and experience:
- Steelwork engineer with experience in design of structures in the nuclear industry or with experience on subjects at the interface between design and construction;
- Experience in calculation notes preparation and mechanical behaviour;
- Knowledge of the Eurocode 2 and understanding of safety requirements are recommended in order to answer to the requests;
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D design softwares;
- Knowledge of FEA design softwares;
- Experience working in a multicultural environment;
Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills.
- Knowledge of the HPC project or previous EPR and associated studies/doctrine is a real asset;
- Previous experience in Edvance and/or with EDF-Framatome processes, with a particular emphasis on Engineering Sequence and Quality procedures (P3)
For 2D and 3D design softwares:
- Navisworks, PDMS, TEKLA, AUTOCAD (or knowledge in similar 3D, 2D software application);
For FEA design softwares:
- RSTAB knowledge (or similar 3D SW calculation software);
Level of Experience:
- Experience in the management of transverse technical topics;
- Experience in civil or MEH construction is a bonus;
- Excellent Interpersonal skills, conscientiousness, organisation, writing ability;
- Good organizational, writing and oral expression skills in English are essential for the realization of the activities of document production, steering and interfaces with the various correspondents;
- Ability to prioritise, to manage numerous interfaces, to question and understand the imperatives of other downstream/ interfacing disciplines. Ability to meet commitments and deadlines;
In the frame of HPC plant construction, The Joint Design Organization (JDO) is an integrated team composed of teams from: the HPC Client (NNB), who leads the JDO; EDVANCE and CNEPE and Contractors who have carried out the detailed design studies01. As part of its scope of delegation, JDO provides technical support at the HPC EPR site for the resolution of the various problems arising during the construction phases and later during the testing and commissioning operations.
Activities will be highly interfaced within JDO (cf Context) and other JDO teams (cf Main Activities). Note that, should the need arise, Back Office teams may as well be solicited, i.e., interfaces expected with EPR-E teams in Bristol and Edvance teams in Paris.
