Job description
Framatome is a major international player in the nuclear energy market recognised for its innovative solutions and value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing the global nuclear fleet. The company designs, manufactures, and installs components, fuel and instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services.
Due to our ongoing growth, we are recruiting a Project Controls Manager to be based either at Sizewell or Cranfield.
The Project Controls Manager is responsible for managing a multidisciplinary team of project controls professionals to deliver holistic, integrated project controls outputs. This can be for an individual large project, a programme of related projects, or a business line portfolio. It is expected that each Business Line will have one dedicated lead project controls manager to oversee all projects within this portfolio, delivering not just the integrated outputs for each project but also overall Business Line level outputs and analysis.
The role would be expected to focus the majority of their time and effort on managing the team, co-ordinating the project controls workload, identifying and escalating or resolving issues, and assuring and challenging their outputs against Framatome processes and quality expectations, rather than working directly on producing outputs themselves. They will also maintain a focus on the continuous improvement of the outputs, tools and processes in their team, working closely with the central PMO to develop the function further.
Manage and lead their Project Controls team, consisting of project controllers and discipline specialists, through:
- Conducting day-to-day line management duties for all members of the team
- Ensuring the development of all members of the team through coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training as well as co-ordinating formal training requirements
- Review and assure all outputs of the team for compliance to Framatome Ltd processes and quality standards, identifying shortfalls and addressing these through staff development or tool/process/template refinement
- Have an active role in resource planning and the recruitment process including interviews.
Support and ensure the production of quality, coherent and aligned Planning, Scheduling, Cost Control, RAID and Document Control outputs by all members of the team, ensuring projects have:
- Fully aligned breakdown structures covering the full scope of project work.
- Suitably detailed and justified cost estimates for all work packages, used as the basis of budgets in the cost model, with contingencies and mitigations in place aligned with RAID registers.
- Baselined, fully logic linked, cost and resourced loaded plans in line with the WBS and cost estimate/ model, with suitable contingencies and mitigations in place aligned with RAID registers.
- EVM and Productivity reporting combining cost and schedule outputs into a consolidated picture.
Profile
The Project Controls Manager will have worked across most or all of the project controls sub-disciplines for several years each and is capable of producing high quality outputs that integrate all of these disciplines holistically. You will be confident in taking an inquisitive, analytical and (where needed) challenging role within the project, holding project and work package managers to account and driving accuracy and best practice into the project. You will have experience being a senior member of a project controls team, being capable of working fully autonomously with little to no oversight and is seen as an expert who other project controllers’ approach for guidance/ coaching on, and assurance of, their project controls outputs. You will also have had some experience in developing tools, processes, guidance and standards for project controls processes and outputs, implementing these within a project.
As an experienced person in this role, you would have managed a multidisciplinary team of project controls professionals, producing integrated outputs for several years and being fully capable in line management. You will have a strong vision of the future of your team and the business, being capable of actively planning and driving towards this future.
