Job description

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and support to construction for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, but also for the Sizewell C project (SZC). EDF EPR Engineering UK works closely with EDVANCE and CNEPE in France, where the design of the EPR for HPC was initially developed and where some activities for HPC project still remains (i.e., safety, I&C).

On their side, EDVANCE and CNEPE are responsible of the design of the EPR2 and EPR1200, optimized EPR model incorporating the feedback from the ongoing EPR projects.

As part of the Responsible Designer for the Hinkley Point C EPR project, EDF EPR Engineering UK covers the whole scope of the plants the Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI) and the Conventional Island (CI) and Balance of Plant (BoP). EDVANCE still provides Engineering Design support for the Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI). CNEPE delivers similar works for the Conventional Island (CI) and Balance of Plant (BoP).
For the HPC project, we are currently looking to recruit for the role of Equipment Engineer.

The mission will aim to support the construction of the two EPR on HPC by:
Answering to requests coming from building and erection contractors on equipment discipline by:

  • Gathering all needed input for the answer,
    Producing technical assessment and solution, with supporting justification,
  • Liaising with design back-offices or execution designer when needed,
  • Assessing and listing the impacts of the site change on the equipment design,
  • Opening the dedicated change process to launch the implementation of the impacts

Reporting to the Equipment Discipline Lead achievements, progresses and difficulties and raising alerts on any aspects of the design when identified,

Contributing to the closure of design open points after the delivery of design packages to site,

Being part of JDO Equipment team, participating to Team meetings, sharing technical topics,

Contributing to build OPEX for other projects (SZC or EPR2),

Contributing to continuous improvement of the team.

 

In a near future, the Equipment Engineer will be the entry point in JDO side for some contracts and equipment (to be defined) and will be responsible to interface with all the stakeholders.

Positions following that of JDO Equipment Engineer can be in a wide range of nuclear engineering professions:
JDO Layout or Piping or HVAC Engineer
CMT erection engineer
Team Lead
Technical referent or development of a career in expertise

The post is restricted due to the nature of the role and the export control regulations which apply. All applicants will be subject to national security and export control vetting processes

Profile

To be considered, the following qualifications, skills and experience is essential

  • Science, mechanical engineering degree qualified
  • First experience in Equipment design and constructions activities
  • Experience in equipment installation (site) or manufacturing
     

Preferred

  • Knowledge of EUROCODE, RCC-M code
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D design softwares: PDMS, NavisWorks
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of the HPC project or previous EPR and associated studies/doctrine is a real asset
     

Skills required

  • Experience in the management of transverse technical topics
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills, conscientiousness, organisation, writing ability.
  • Good organizational, writing and oral expression skills in English are essential for the realization of the activities of document production, steering and interfaces with the various correspondents.
  • Ability to prioritise, to manage numerous interfaces, to question and understand the imperatives of other downstream disciplines. Ability to meet commitments and deadlines.
  • Committed to deliver to cost, quality and schedule
  • Ability to cope in a technically complex and fast-changing environment, and to respond calmly and rationally to changing aspirations in a deadline-driven situation
  • Remains focused under pressure, thinking clearly and objectively
  • Strong planning and organising skills including the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and build successful relationships at all levels.

The Joint Design Office (JDO) is part of the HPC Engineering Directorate. The JDO gathered members from the Client and from the Responsible Designer. All members of JDO representing the Responsible Designer are part of EDF EPR Engineering. Within its scope of delegated authority, the JDO provides technical support to the HPC site for the resolution of technical challenges and issues arising during construction works as well as erection, commission and testing. The JDO is also in charge of the resolution of open points and design changes which haven’t been closed prior to site activities.
